Santa Maria, Sal - Cape Verde

Cape Verde islands, are just over an hour south of the Canaries, off the coast of Africa and offers year round sunshine and excellent kitesurfing conditions. These beautiful and varied islands have only recently opened up to tourism and so still offer long, unposilt, uncrowded beaches and a very chilled and friendly atmosphere.

Beginners - Our great value kitesurf school packages are aimed at beginners who want to learn an exciting new sport in a warm, beaurtiful setting. The beginner package includes 8 hours of high quality tuition to teach you the basic skills to go off and kitesurf on your own.

Intermediate/Advanced - we offer packages for experienced kitesurfers who just want to hire high quality equipment and make use of the kite centre facilities and make new friends. If you want to imporve your riding we can also offer intermediate kitesurf school and private advanced lessons.

Itinerary and highlights

The kite centre is Santa Maria's top Kite Surfing school. An experienced kite surfing team with strong local knowledge of all the kite spots and conditions on the island, are on hand. As well as your experienced English speaking instructors.
The Bay at Santa Maria, provides 3km of sandy beach and glassy waters which are perfect for long kite and wind surf runs. The wind is slight more side-off at the top of the bay and slightly side-on at the end of the Bay. There are No rock and No reefs, making this a perfect site to wind surf and kite surf.

All instruction is with 4 and 5 line kites.
For complete beginners its takes an average of 11hours to learn the sport. The lessons begin with some beach training (learning how to fly and control the kite). The amount of beach training varies with the level of the client. Once the client has learnt to control the kite on land, the remaining lessons take place on water in front of the centre. The first stages on the water comprise of you and the kite, performing what is known as the “Body Drag”. Once you have learnt to control the kite, the next stage is getting you on the board. Our goal is to have you going out and coming back in, on the board, before you leave.

For intermediate and advanced kite surfers the lessons begin in the water with a focus on taking your kite surfing to the next level.  Lessons will focus on areas that you would like to work on i.e going up wind, jumps, transitions, handle passes, etc
